What makes our brains truly unique? In an interview published in Cerveau & Psycho magazine, Baptiste Libé-Philippot, research fellow at the IBDM, shares some astonishing and fascinating answers.

He is particularly fascinated not just by the size or shape of the human brain, but by the way it develops. Unlike other animals, our brains take much longer to mature. This isn’t a defect, though – quite the contrary.

This slowness gives our brains more time to learn, adapt, and create. While a young monkey or mouse finishes developing its brain quickly, a human child takes several years. It is this long period of development that enables us to speak, think, invent, and communicate ideas to others.

A fascinating read to help you understand what makes us human.
